뉴포트 뉴스의 Knights of Columbus (Colombian center)에서 페닌슐라 한인회가 주최하는 연말파티를 4년여 만에 성대하게 개최하였습니다.
그동안 코로나의 여파로 모임을 갖지못하고 미루다가 이렇게 기회를 마련하여 약 사오백여명이 운집한 가운데 가진 행사에서 사회는 사무총장이신 송명식씨 그리고 15대 한인회장이셨던 장혜정씨께서 사회를 보셨습니다.
개회사와 국민의례를 마친후 미국가와 애국가를 복창한후 순국선열에 대한 묵념으로 이어갔으며, 그 다음 순서로 환영사는 29대 페닌슐라 한인회장이신 임호순씨께서 해주셨고 귀빈소개는 장혜정씨께서 해주셨습니다.
주요 내빈으로는 미주한인회 총연합회(이하 미주총연)의 제30대 총회장이신 서정일씨께서 방문하여 인사말과 페닌슐라 한인회를 독려하시고 한해를 마무리하고 새해에는 더욱 발전하는 해가 되길 기원하면서 감사의 말을 전하셨습니다.
특히 Congressman Bobby Scott 로버트 코르테즈 스콧은 1993년부터 버지니아주 제3 하원의원 선거구에서 미국 대표로 활동하고 있는 미국 변호사 겸 정치인입니다. 민주당 소속인 그는 버지니아주 의회 대표단의 단장이자 최초의 필리핀계 미국인 하원의원이기도 합니다.
또한 44대 리치몬드 한인회장이신 황재광씨 그리고 2022년 리치몬드 한인회장이셨던 김은호씨께서 방문하여 페닌슐라 한인회 연말 파티를 축하 해주셨습니다.
내빈소개를 마친후 축사로는 도원석 햄튼로드 교역자 협회장님께서 기도로 모임의 시작을 알리셨습니다.
경품 추첨 사이사이에 고전무용으로 진도북춤, 축원무, 난타등 고대와 현대가 어우러진듯한 다이나믹한 무대를 선보여 참석자들을 눈과 귀를 즐겁게 하였습니다.
너무나 오랫동안 코로나의 위협속에서 살다가 이런 모임을 가졌는지 몰라도 들뜬 마음에 많은 사람들이 내빈이 연설을 하는 와중에도 오랜만에 조우한 지인들과 회포를 푸느라 시간가는줄 모르고 잡담을 하여 웅성거린것이 약간의 옥의 티였지만 전체적으로 즐겁고 활기찬 분위기에서 성공적인 모임이 되었습니다.
2024년에는 올해 성공적인 송년파티의 여세를 몰아 새해에는 더욱 발전하는 페닌슐라 한인회가 되기를 기대합니다.
29th Annual Peninsula Korean Association Holiday Party
The year-end party hosted by the Peninsula Korean American Association at the Knights of Columbus (Colombian center) in Newport News was held for the first time in more than four years.
At the event, which was attended by about 4 to 500 people, the event was hosted by Mr. Song Myung-sik, Secretary General, and Ms. Jang Hye-jung, the 15th President of the Korean American Association.
After the opening remarks and national anthem, the event continued with a moment of silence for the fallen soldiers, followed by a welcome speech by Mr. Hosoon Im, the 29th President of the Peninsula Korean American Association, and an introduction of the guests by Ms. Hyejung Jang.
The main guest of honor was Mr. Jung-il Suh, the 30th President of the Korean American Federation of the Americas (hereinafter referred to as the KAFA), who visited the event and expressed his greetings, encouraged the Peninsula Korean Association, and expressed his gratitude and wishes for a more prosperous year in the new year.
In particular, Congressman Bobby Scott is an American lawyer and politician who has served as the United States Representative for Virginia’s 3rd congressional district since 1993. A Democrat, he is the head of Virginia’s congressional delegation and the first Filipino-American member of Congress.
In addition, Mr. Jae Kwang Hwang, the 44th President of the Richmond Korean American Association, and Mr. Eunho Kim, the 2022 President of the Richmond Korean American Association, visited and congratulated us on the Peninsula Korean American Association’s year-end party.
After introducing the guests, Pastor Wonseok Do, President of Council of Korean Churches, opened the event with a prayer.
In between the raffle prizes, classical dances such as Jindo Drum Dance, Chukwon Dance, and Nanta were performed to the delight of the attendees with a dynamic stage that seemed to blend the ancient and modern.
After living under the threat of the coronavirus for so long, it’s been a long time since we’ve had a gathering like this.
In the midst of the excitement, many people continuously talking with friends and acquaintances even as the emcees delivered their speeches. Although it was a fly in the oinment, it was a successful gathering with a fun and energetic atmosphere.
In 2024, we hope to build on the momentum of this year’s successful year-end party and become a better Peninsula Korean Association in the new year.
